The Queen's Gambit Review
The Queen’s Gambit Review
Hi guys! Welcome to my new review.
The Queen’s Gambit is a Netflix miniseries based on Walter Tevis’s novel
and it stars Anya-Taylor Joy, Harry Melling and Thomas Brodie-Sangster. The
series became Netflix’s most-watched miniseries. It won two Golden Globe Awards
for Best Limited Series and Best Actress for Anya-Taylor Joy.
The plot:
The protagonist is Elizabeth,
played by Anya-Taylor Joy, who is an orphan and is taught chess by the
orphanage’s custodian. The kids in the orphanage were obliged to take
tranquillizer pills, which became an addiction for Elizabeth. She becomes a
good chess player and after a few years at the orphanage, she is adopted by Alma
and her husband. Elizabeth takes part in a chess tournament. During this
tournament her drug and also alcohol addiction increase.
IMDB rating: 8.6
Personal rating: 10
Personal opinion:
Anya-Taylor Joy is amazing in this TV show and Elizabeth character is written really good. The whole show keeps the viewer in constant suspense regarding both the chess tournament and Elizabeth’s life. I also enjoyed how Elizabeth's relationships were structured, starting from the mother-daughter relationship to Elizabeth's friendships and romantic relationships.
