Pieces of a woman Review
Hi guys! Welcome to my new review: today we’re going to talk
about a Netflix movie called Pieces of a Woman. This movie is a drama directed
by Kornél Mundruczo, written by Kata Wéber and inspired by her own
miscarriage and Martin Scorsese is one of the executive producers.
The movie stars Vanessa Kirby as the protagonist, mostly known for her role as
Princess Margaret in The Crown, Shia LaBeouf, Sarah Snook, Molly Parker and
Ellen Burstyn.
The plot:
Martha, the protagonist played by Vanessa Kirby, and Sean,
interpreted by Shia LaBeouf are expecting their first child. The baby seems to
have some problems during the labour, which took place at their home, and the
expectant parents lose their child. The lost of the child occurs because of an
alleged error caused by the midwife. In the movie we can see how much suffering
was brought by this death, so we see the grieving of both Martha and Sean.
IMDB
rating: 7.1
Personal
rating: 8.5
Personal
opinion:
This movie
was really good and it shows what a woman who lost her child goes through.
Vanessa Kirby was simply outstanding in her role and I believe that she is
going to receive recognition for this. The whole cast actually was really
impressive and I also wanted to underline the amazing acting skills of Ellen
Burstyn, who won already an Oscar for her role as Sara in Requiem for a Dream.
About the movie, I will say that it can arouse various feelings from anger to
compassion and sadness. Also, I noticed some symbols and metaphors, one of them
for example was the apple: at the beginning, after her child’s death, Martha is
at a grocery store and she choose a “perfect” apple, in a second time we see
Martha eating a rotten apple which indicates the bad relationship between
Martha and Sean, then she starts taking the seeds from the apples in order to
make them grow and only when Martha is truly aware and accept her child death
the seeds start to germinate. So Martha is represented by apples and we come
aware of this in the ending where she finally has collected her “pieces” and
created an apple tree.
