Parasite review

 

Hi guys! Welcome to my new review. Parasite is a black comedy thriller movie directed by Bong Joon-ho, starring Song Kang-ho (known also for his performance in Snowpiercer), Lee Sun-kyun, Cho Yeo-jeong and Choi Woo-shik. Parasite won four Oscars: Best picture, Best International Feature Film, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. It is also the first non-English language film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture.  

The plot: 

It all starts with the Kim family in which the son Ki-Woo take a job as an English tutor for the daughter of the wealthy Park family. The Kim family recommends one another as unrelated and qualified workers to take over as servants of the Parks. The movie starts as a comedy and end up as a thriller. The movie is also based on plot twists which are really dark.

Personal opinion:

The movie is really good and I also enjoyed the picture and the soundtrack. In Parasite we can find the representation of the society and the huge difference between high and low classes, so between poor people and rich people. We can see in the movie how the poor people work for the rich ones: the Kim family works for the Park family and there is also a scene where a character turns on the lights for the Park family and they think it’s just a light automatic system (this scene clearly represents that sometimes the poor people help the rich ones without even knowing and the rich ones are also unaware that there are people that indirectly work for them). Another thing that I noticed is that the Park family doesn’t stand the smell of the Kim family, this because the rich ones aren’t used to hang around the streets composed by the low classes houses or to frequent the subway for example; so the Parks aren’t used to smell this kind of scent. The lasts scenes are really creepy and scary because you can finally understand how this movie represents the reality. I really recommend this movie to everybody!
