Midsommar Review
Hi guys! Welcome to my first movie review
Midsommar is a folk horror and thriller movie written and
directed by Ari Aster, the creator of Hereditary, and starring Florence Pugh,
Jack Reynor, William Jackson Harper and Will Poulter. This movie is known
especially for Florence Pugh performance, for the costumes and of course for
all the mystery and the ambiguity that surround the whole film.
The plot:
Midsommar talks about a group of friends who travel to
Sweden for a festival that occurs once every 90 years. The protagonist Dani
Ardor (Florence Pugh) is traumatized by a horrible incident regarding her
family. Christian (Jack Reynor), her boyfriend, and his friends Mark and Josh
have been invited by their Swedish friend Pelle to attend
a midsummer celebration at an ancestral commune, the Hårga,
in Halsingland. Dani also decides to take part in the trip, and when they
arrive at the village they find themselves in a series of intense situations
and rituals.
IMDB rating: 7.1
Personal vote: 7.5
Personal opinion:
I liked the movie, it really took my attention all along. I
would actually describe this movie as a psychological horror because it’s not
like the typical horror with jump scares and monsters, Midsommar is so much
more. It creates tension and mystery all along and this tension is given also
by the music and by certain shots. I believe that this movie isn’t for everyone
for many reasons; first of all, many don’t like this type of movies and second
of all it kind of needs to be interpreted in some parts. The ending it’s the
creepiest part for me: Dani smiling in front of something awful seemed to me
like a new begging of her life. She spent the whole movie crying and to me most
of these scenes seemed like panic attacks, and in the end she finally smiles
and maybe because she found a new family to be in. The ending is really
something I would like to discuss about with you guys because I think there are
different interpretations. If you want leave a comment and follow
