Big Little Lies Review

 

Hi guys, welcome to my second review of a tv show!
Big little lies is an HBO television series based on Liane Moriarty’s novel. It is a drama, dark comedy tv show and mystery is the main theme. It has two seasons and it is created by David E. Kelley. Big Little Lies stars Reese Whiterspoon, Nicole Kidman, Zoe Kravitz, Laura Dern, Shailene Woodley, Alexander Skarsgard, and many others; while in the second season Meryl Streep joined the main cast. The cast is truly unique and I was amazed to see these actors altogether. Also, Big Little Lies has received nine golden globe nominations and four of them were won by Nicole Kidman for Best Performance by an Actress in a limited series, Alexander Skarsgard for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Laura Dern for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role and the last Golden Globe is for Best Television Limited Series. It received also twenty-one Primetime Emmy Award nominations and won eight (including awards to Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, and Alexander Skarsgard).

The plot:
Big Little Lies tells the story of five mothers in Monterey, California who are involved in a murder investigation. Madeline (Reese Whiterspoon) is concerned because her oldest daughter is going through her adolescence alongside the new girlfriend of Nathan, her ex-husband, Bonnie (Zoe Kravitz). Jane (Shailene Woodley) is a single mother with a trauma that haunts her. Celeste (Nicole Kidman) suffers abuses and physical violence by her husband Perry (Alexander Skarsgard). Lastly, Renata (Laura Dern) who we know more about in the second season, really cares about her career and the reputation of her family. In the second season, we have Meryl Streep who interprets Perry’s mother, Mary Louise.

Personal opinion:
I really enjoyed this series because of the plot and of course because of the cast. Every character has his own story and I found each of them truly interesting. I believe that this series is a mix of Desperate Housewives and Pretty Little Liars, I mean the series talks about murder, and five mothers are involved. But of course, only the plot, in general, seems similar to these other two series, in fact, the stories of the characters are really well written. My favorite character is Celeste, but I actually love all the other mothers. The kids in this show are great by the way. It’s a mix of comedy, mystery, and drama and of course, I just love it. I also loved the cinematography and the soundtrack. It’s really a good show which I recommend to everyone’s reading!
